Bringing Children Closer to Nature

national survey 2018

Thank you for your interest in this important national survey, which aims to explore how more children could be better connected with nature. Our interest is in outdoor education in wooded areas and forests, particularly Forest School practice, and we welcome a wide range of views from all outdoor educators and woodland owners.

Survey partners Sylva Foundation, Forest School Association, and The Ernest Cook Trust are running this survey as part of the Forest Schools for All project funded by The Ernest Cook Trust. The project is focussed on delivery in England, while for this survey the researchers are interested in receiving responses from the whole of the UK. This will allow comparison between countries, and provide valuable data for use by others in Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

We want to learn from you, building on your knowledge and experience, about the challenges and opportunities you face in establishing and sustaining outdoor education in wooded areas and forests, in and out of school grounds.

Independent researchers will analyse the responses and produce a detailed report, backed by suite of robust statistics, which we hope will inform policy, shape good practice, enable national pilot projects and guide future funding. The final report will be published in 2019 and will be free and accessible to all as a download on Sylva Foundation website.

All data will be anonymised in reporting, meaning that no responses will be directly attributed to you in any published outputs. Data will be held by Sylva Foundation in compliance with its Privacy Policy, and no personal data will be shared, either with project partners, or other third parties.

The survey closes 31st December 2018.

This survey will vary in length depending who you are and your responses, but an estimate of 30 minutes to complete is average. You can save it any point and come back to it at another time if required. The length of the survey reflects the importance of the survey.

To opt into the prize draw simply tick the box at the end of the survey. If you are the lucky winner Sylva Foundation will contact you by email and you can provide your name and address for the gift voucher. Sylva Foundation will not share any contact details with third parties.
